We take online submissions on a rolling basis. In lieu of a reading period, we occasionally follow HS' monthly themes. July's theme is HOLOGRAM, which you can read more about here. Submissions do not have to follow the aforementioned theme, but we encourage any potential submitters to consider it.

We publish a yearly anthology and hand-select work for Haloscope's quarterly print magazine. For those larger endeavors, we do have set reading periods and different requirements for work that we will announce as they materialize.

Please send all submissions to thehaloscopereview@gmail.com. We do not take submissions via post or DMs. Choose one of the following for the subject line of your e-mail: POETRY, PROSE, REVIEW or INTERVIEW REQUEST. We cap off prose at 5000 words a piece (please send only 1-3 pieces) and 1-6 poems at 3 pages a poem. These guidelines are flexible based on the quality of the work submitted. We have no preference for spacing or typeface(s).

All submissions MUST be in one document. Said document needs to be a .pdf or Google Drive/Docs link so that way it is able to be accessed regardless of software. Please note that .pdf's affect formatting, so please open your document and review the spacing before you submit it.

Your cover letter MUST contain the following:

  • A third-person brief biography (about one paragraph)

  • Pay-as-you-wish reading fee (any amount of $$, even $0)

  • The case-sensitive name under which you publish

  • The case sensitive titles of your piece(s)

  • Your pronouns

  • The specific genre of your submission(s) (e.g. poem, essay, flash fiction, etc)

  • Any content warnings

  • Link to social media usernames (optional)

Work can be previously published as long as you denote the outlets of their publication in your submission. We will read simultaneous submissions, but let us know immediately in a reply to your original email if your work has been accepted elsewhere. We reserve the right to edit accepted submissions and bios for grammar, spelling, and style, but will proof them by you before publication.

At this time, we cannot afford to pay our contributors, let alone our staff. Submissions are free and require no reading fee, but we do offer a pay-as-you-wish reading fee that goes directly to keeping the site afloat.

We offer personalized comments and suggestions for submissions for $10, which goes either directly to keeping the site afloat or to aid (such as The Yellowhammer Fund), which is announced periodically. Right now, we're donating all funds to RAICES, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services. You can donate at paypal.me/haloscope, and make sure to let us know of your donation in your email.

For any questions still lingering, feel free to email us at thehaloscopereview@gmail.com for more information.
